As a community service we are providing a self defense workshop on June 22, from 3-4pm. This workshop will be helpful for those that are new to self defense training as well as those that have some experience or prior training. The purpose is to build awareness within self defense situations, giving practitioners the tools to navigate a sudden high stress situation, which could mean de escalating the situation or employing a self-defense airbag to prevent sudden catastrophe and get to safety.
The workshop is free, we do require registration ahead as space is limited. You can register here: Registration Link
Thanks to all of our competitors and their hard work, 10th Planet Walnut Creek has won the Grappling X No-Gi Adult team title! We had competitors ranging from the beginner division to the expert division, from 145lbs to 250lbs.
Competition is an opportunity to test your preparation leading up but it is also a step into the unknown. For some of our competitors it was a refresher back into the scene and for others it was a first time competing outside of in house events. The ultimate goal is self knowledge and mastery.
Until you are in the situation, you do not know how you are in the situation. One of the benefits of grappling is the access to growth opportunities. Stepping on to the competition mat, you will feel the adrenaline surging, once you slap hands with your opponent, you will focus in on them, dulling the sounds from the rest of the world, you are engaging in a most pure form of moving meditation.
For newer competitors it is all about finding out what has...

Last weekend we made the trek out to Las Vegas to test ourselves and grapple with the best in the world. The ADCC Open and ADCC Trials were held at the West Gate event center in Las Vegas. The ADCC Open runs ahead of the Trials and offers divisions for all levels of grappler as well as kids and masters divisions, executed in the same spirit as the ADCC Trials and Worlds tournaments. The ADCC Trials are a battle for a spot in the worlds tournament, bringing out the best grapplers in each weight class, coach Alex had 256 grapplers in his division.
Coach Chris competed in two divisions of the ADCC Open tournament, the 155 and the 170 divisions, taking second and third place while scoring another dead orchard. Coach Alex participated in the trials and was eliminated in the first round, almost scoring a dead orchard but getting score on in the final seconds. You can watch both of their matches on FloGrappling with a subscription.
Today our white belts stepped out of their comfort zone and competed at 10th Planet Sacramento. 10p Sac did a great job running the event, each participant got at least 2 matches and got appropriate opponents.
These in-house competitions are a great way for 10th Planet students to gain that ever important mat time under pressure. You do not know what it will feel like to be in a situation until you find yourself in it. This is one of the great things about 10th Planet Northern California.
In-house competitions serve as a stepping stone for those who aspire to compete at a higher level. They provide valuable experience competing with similarly skilled individuals, allowing you to refine your competition strategy and build confidence before venturing into external tournaments.
We had participants from 10th Planet Sacramento, Stockton, Walnut Creek, Daly City, Oakland and San Mateo. Not only is it a great way to get competition experience but also a great way to meet your Jiu Jitsu...
Despite the intensity of the competition, there exists a unique camaraderie in the Jiu Jitsu community. The shared experience of pushing your limits, facing your fears, and striving for mastery fosters a deep respect and understanding between competitors. Whether you win or lose, you share a bond forged in sweat, struggle, and mutual respect. The high fives after the match, the genuine congratulations to the victor, and the support offered to the defeated are testaments to this unspoken brotherhood.
Stepping off the mat, you carry the echoes of the battle within you. The physical fatigue fades, but the emotional impact lingers. It's a sense of accomplishment, of having faced your fears and emerged stronger. It's a reminder of the lessons learned, the skills honed, and the resilience discovered. But most importantly, it's a spark that ignites the desire to return, to step back onto the mat and once again dance the intricate dance of Jiu Jitsu, forever chasing the thrill...

We are getting ready for another action packed White Belt team event! We will be using the quintet ruleset to facilitate team building and competition development. Our team captains will be Ron and Greg, and we will divide the White Belts into teams with a Belt Anchor on each team.
In the Quintet ruleset, each team decides on a batting order, if the first to grappling eliminates the first on the other team, then they go against the next person. If neither submits the other, both are eliminated and the next on the team goes up. The team with survivors at the end wins.
This is going to be super fun, check out the video from last year's event!
On Saturday February 10th, we have our next Parent's Night Out Scheduled. Our event will run from 5-9pm, kids 6 and older are eligible. We will be having a Nerf Battle, other team building games and Jiu Jitsu matches. We will also be serving pizza, and have wind down time with a movie.
